RIDE TO REMEMBER 9-11

September 11th, 2001 is a day that will be remembered forever in history.  Nearly 3,000 innocent people were killed.  In a valiant attempt to save lives, 343 Firefighters, and 72 Law Enforcement Officers made the ultimate sacrifice.  Americans, from all walks of life, came together and vowed, “We will never forget”.  When the first year anniversary came near, the Illinois Blue Knights XI wanted to keep that promise, and remember the victims of the 9-11 attacks.  They worked with the Illinois Blue Knights XV of Springfield, Illinois and planned the first “Ride To Remember 9-11” memorial service to take place in Springfield, Illinois.  Oak Lawn Harley Davidson, Oak Lawn HOG, Hall’s Harley Davidson of Springfield, Illinois, and the Springfield HOG became active supporters of the memorial service.  Since 2002, participants from all over the Midwest have kept the promise, “We will never forget”.

On September 11th, 2005 a permanent memorial to the victims of the 9-11 attacks was dedicated on the grounds of the Illinois State Capital by Joseph Dittmar, a survivor of the World Trade Center terrorist attacks, and a resident of the State of Illinois.  The memorial was placed next to the Illinois Police Officers and Illinois Firefighters Memorial.

The annual “Ride To Remember 9-11” memorial service is on the second Sunday of September every year.  There will be a motorcade procession to the State Capital Grounds Police and Fire Fighters Memorial site.  The starting point will be at Hall’s Harley Davidson parking lot.  Formation begins at 8:00a.m.  Hall’s is located at Dirksen Parkway and Sangamon Avenue Springfield, Illinois – exit 100B on Interstate I-55.  The procession will leave at 9:30a.m.  The memorial service at the Capital Grounds will begin at 10:30a.m.

This event is free and open to everyone.  To offset the cost of the event, T – Shirts and Ride Pins will be sold.  There will be a fund raising party on the Saturday evening before the memorial service.  Complete details on the party and lodging can be found on this web site.  “Ride To Remember 9-11” is a 501c3 not – for profit charitable organization.
